Award of 100,000 quintals of subsidized barley to livestock farmers in the Souss‑Massa region.

It has been decided to distribute 100,000 quintals of subsidized barley to livestock breeders in the prefectures and provinces of the Souss‑Massa region for three months, from April to June, as part of measures taken to mitigate the negative repercussions of the lack of rainfall during the current agricultural season. A report from the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of the Souss‑Massa region explains that the recorded decrease in rainfall has had a significant negative impact on pastures and forage crops needed to meet the herd’s needs, which prompted the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests to develop a special livestock‑feeding support programme involving the distribution of 2.5 million quintals of subsidized barley across various regions of the Kingdom. According to the same source, the barley will be supplied to breeders at a fixed price of two dirhams per kilogram, with the State covering the price difference compared with the current market price. The barley will also be transported from sales points to the main centres of isolated and hard‑to‑reach local communities in the Souss‑Massa region.
