Tourism: Agadir Kicks Off 2026 on a High Note

Boosted by European school holidays and strong British demand, Agadir is recording an encouraging start to 2026 with a rise in arrivals and overnight stays.

Morocco's first seaside resort is entering the first two months of 2026 on a positive note, with stable visitor numbers and a slight increase compared with the previous year. According to a source from the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Agadir Souss-Massa, the destination is experiencing growing activity amid an up‑scale shift and heightened Mediterranean competition. While consolidated February statistics are not yet available, on‑the‑ground indicators confirm a strong presence of international markets during the European school holidays.

January figures illustrate this momentum: the destination recorded 109,602 arrivals, a 4.5 % increase over the 104,840 logged a year earlier. Overnight stays rose 5.4 %, reaching 463,275 versus 439,482 in January 2025, and the average length of stay improved marginally, moving from 4.19 to 4.23 days.

Growth is clearly driven by the international market, while the domestic market fell 3.6 % in arrivals, a slowdown amplified by the month of Ramadan, when many Moroccans favor family trips. In detail, the United Kingdom confirms its locomotive role with a 9.5 % rise in overnight stays, France follows with +7.3 %, while Poland shows a spectacular 54 % increase. Conversely, the Saudi and Finnish markets posted sharp declines of 36 % and 61 % respectively.
