Congratulations Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri and Adur Amatriain!

Basque surfers Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri and Adur Amatriain dominate the Pro Taghazout Bay 2026 and both claim the European title of the WSL Qualifying Series.

The WSL Pro Taghazout Bay Qualifying Series (QS 4,000) competition, held from March 22 to 29, 2026 on the waves of Anza, crowned two Basque surfers: Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri and Adur Amatriain. Co‑sanctioned by the Europe and Africa regions, it served as the season finale for the European circuit, determining the regional champions and the final qualifications for the 2026 Challenger Series.

In the women's final, Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri dominated Britain's Alys Barton with a total score of 14.83 out of 20, including an excellent 8.00 on a beautiful right‑hand backhand. The victory marked redemption for the Basque surfer, who was an unlucky finalist in 2025, and simultaneously earned her the 2025/2026 European QS title and a spot in the 2026 Challenger Series. Returning from injury, she had missed the last two Challenger Series events of the year.

In the men's division, Adur Amatriain delivered a high‑flying week, eliminating the European rankings leader Guilherme Ribeiro before defeating Frenchman Justin Becret in a tight semi‑final. In the final against Conor Donegan Dos Santos, he confirmed his mastery to claim the best result of his career and the season’s European QS title. Trained by Basque legend Aritz Aranburu on the Challenger Series circuit, Amatriain showed remarkable maturity and composure throughout the competition.

Pro Taghazout Bay 2026 benefited from the support of the Wilaya of the Souss‑Massa region, the municipality of Taghazout, the Souss‑Massa Regional Tourism Development Agency, the Moroccan National Tourism Office, as well as several institutional and private partners.
