Souss-Massa: Launch of 10 Solidarity Agriculture Projects

A Structured Two-Phase Launch

The rural world of Souss-Massa is about to experience a new dynamism.

The Regional Agricultural Development Office of Souss-Massa (ORMVASM) has just launched ten agricultural projects aimed at a profound transformation of the sector.

These initiatives are not coming out of nowhere. They align with the national Generation Green strategy, which aims to modernize Moroccan agriculture while strengthening its social and economic role.

Implemented in two phases, these projects prioritize small farmers in vulnerable situations, rural youth often seeking opportunities, and women from disadvantaged areas.

The idea is simple yet ambitious: to make agriculture a true lever for inclusion and stability.

Each project will be tailored to local specificities. Before any implementation, a territorial diagnosis is carried out to account for social, economic, and environmental realities.

A “tailor‑made” approach that departs from the often‑criticized standardized models.

A more modern, more profitable, and more inclusive agriculture

Beyond the administrative launch, these projects carry a clear vision: to transform family farming into a structured and profitable activity.

Four main pillars define this new dynamism. First, diversification of crops, with a focus on more lucrative sectors such as organic farming.

Next, the sustainable intensification of production systems to improve yields without depleting natural resources.

Third pillar: adding value to agricultural products, notably by integrating them into more organized marketing channels. Finally, the inclusion of youth and women, considered a central pillar of this strategy.

In several rural areas, this direction is seen as a concrete opportunity. Many young farmers finally hope to move from subsistence farming to an activity that generates stable income.

Cooperatives and local organizations on the front line

Agricultural professional organizations (OPA) and cooperatives occupy a strategic position in this framework. They are called upon to play a structuring role, as well as to connect producers with markets.

Concretely, they must enable small producers to better organize themselves, pool resources, and gain visibility. This is a crucial lever in a sector where isolation remains a major obstacle to competitiveness.

A more resilient rural model facing climate challenges

This initiative goes beyond mere production logic. It also fits within a context marked by climate challenges, water pressure, and economic shifts.

Morocco is regularly cited as an example in agricultural innovation and the transition to more sustainable models.

Souss‑Massa thus continues this trajectory, aiming to strengthen the resilience of its family agriculture.
