Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch launched yesterday in Tafraout a series of structural development projects in the health, economic and urban‑infrastructure sectors.
Yesterday, Sunday, April 27, 2026, in the town of Tafraout, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch launched a series of new development projects. The Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Wali of the Souss‑Massa region, and the Director General of the Territorial Health Group of the Souss‑Massa region also participated, along with several local stakeholders.
These projects are part of the government’s shift toward a comprehensive rehabilitation of territorial areas and a reduction of social and spatial disparities, in line with the high royal directives, aiming to bring the benefits of development closer to all citizens, men and women, and to promote spatial justice.
In the health sector, the Prime Minister oversaw the laying of the cornerstone for the construction of a community hospital in Tafraout, to be built on about 4 hectares, with total funding of 227 million dirhams and a capacity of up to 45 beds. The project aims to facilitate residents’ access to basic health services, reduce the need to travel to other cities for care, improve working conditions for health staff, and provide a stimulating professional environment.
The hospital will provide a range of medical and therapeutic services to roughly 70,000 residents of the Tiznit province, including general and specialized medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, intensive care and anesthesia, radiology, as well as treatment of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and various nursing services, ensuring comprehensive health care.
In the economic sphere, the Prime Minister reviewed the project to create and equip an exhibition and sales space for products of the traditional industry and the social‑and‑solidarity economy in the Tafraout community, as well as the project to set up a market for the traditional industry. These initiatives aim to valorize local heritage and boost the region’s tourism appeal.
He also inspected the project to build a new weekly market and a livestock market covering more than 16,000 square metres, a project expected to create hundreds of jobs, promote local products, support farmers’ incomes, and reduce residents’ travel to Tiznit and Agadir for weekly shopping.
The visit also included a review of a project to construct a modern‑specification slaughterhouse, which will help reduce losses in the meat chain by up to 20 percent, while ensuring sanitary safety for the products through regular veterinary supervision.
The Prime Minister’s visit provided an opportunity to present several upcoming projects, including urban development initiatives, the rehabilitation of under‑equipped neighborhoods, the creation of a green space with children’s play areas, the construction of a student residence, as well as the establishment of a multifunctional activation space, a camp project, and a new headquarters for the Tafraout community.
The Prime Minister also reviewed the development project for the communal stadium, which will be equipped with artificial turf, along with a range of necessary sports and health facilities, reflecting the city’s dynamic growth and strengthening its position as a promising local hub in the Souss‑Massa region.
