Souss-Massa: SDR Tourism Posts a Strong 2025 Report and Unveils Its 2026 Ambitions
The Regional Tourism Development Company “SDR Tourisme Souss Massa” held its Board of Directors on March 30, 2026, chaired by the region’s Wali, Saaïd Amzazi. The meeting focused on reviewing the 2025 performance and presenting the action plan and provisional budget for 2026.
Strong Tourism Momentum in 2025
The year 2025 was marked by notable performance for the Agadir‑Taghazout destination, with over 1.5 million arrivals (+9 %) and 6.3 million overnight stays (+7.65 %), achieving an occupancy rate above 66 %. This momentum was reinforced by the successful organization of the Africa Cup of Nations in Agadir, accompanied by a rich programme of activities to which the SDR Tourism actively contributed.
Ground‑breaking Achievements
Over the past year, SDR Tourism continued and accelerated several tourism development projects across the region, notably on emblematic sites such as Imouzzer, Ait Baha, Tiout, as well as Taghazout and Imsouane. It also advanced tourism investment projects, developed ecotourism initiatives, and bolstered hospitality infrastructure by installing information kiosks in Tata and Tiznit.
Moreover, renovation programmes for tourist facilities benefitted numerous establishments, both in urban and rural settings. Sites managed by the SDR, such as the Agadir Oufella Kasbah or the Agadir Medina, saw sustained visitation, confirming their appeal.
Looking Ahead to 2026: Enhancement and New Projects
For 2026, SDR Tourism aims to maintain this momentum through a programme focused on enhancing high‑potential sites and launching new flagship projects. Priorities include developments under the Taroudannt Urban Development Plan, the creation of corniches in Imsouane and Aglou, and strengthening the promotion of the Agadir Souss‑Massa destination.
The agency also plans to continue upgrading tourist establishments and to intensify actions supporting integrated territorial development, in line with national directives.
A Consolidated Strategic Direction
Following the meeting, the Board of Directors approved all resolutions, including the 2025 accounts, the management report, and the 2026 action plan. It also endorsed the expanded mandate of SDR Tourism, tasking it with strengthening its role as a planner and developer to boost regional tourism attractiveness.
