Agadir's governor orders improvements to beach safety and year‑round maintenance of leisure spaces.
Yesterday, Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the headquarters of the governorate of the Souss‑Massa region in the prefecture of Agadir‑Ida‑Outanane hosted a high‑level meeting chaired by the regional governor, devoted to examining administrative and security measures to ensure the success of the summer season. This gathering forms part of the consolidation of the innovative management and spatial approach established by the Governor, which rests on promoting the prefecture’s beaches as an open‑year‑round destination, and ensuring that local territorial marketing aligns with the national tourism spotlight on the city of Agadir as a leading tourist resort characterized by a sustainable summer.
Unlike traditional formulas, the meeting resulted in a state decision to extend the current set of measures rather than issue a new season‑opening decree, reflecting the continuity of efforts since last year. The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the positive results achieved during the 2025 season, as the new approach succeeded in improving the functional and aesthetic aspects of the coastal strip, while decisively breaking with the ad‑hoc management practices based on tenders and brokerage that had undermined the terrain’s sustainability.
With an eye on boosting the efficiency of field operations, Mr. Al‑Wali stressed the need for strict risk management in the jet‑ski rental activity by maintaining access routes and precisely defining training zones, while ensuring year‑round deployment of rescue swimmers to safeguard holiday‑makers. He also issued orders to accelerate the upgrade of horizontal and vertical signage and to install advanced information and awareness boards, alongside launching a large‑scale operation to clear the dense weed growth caused by recent rains along the coastal strip in order to preserve the beaches’ splendor.
On health and environmental grounds, the meeting focused on proactive preventive measures to combat hantavirus by intensifying rodent‑ and insect‑control campaigns, as well as continuing efforts to curb the stray‑dog problem. From a security standpoint, emphasis was placed on ensuring smooth traffic flow, given its vital role in facilitating movement and enabling rapid ambulance response, while also maintaining and equipping facilities for recreational and sporting activities to deliver an integrated tourist experience befitting the Agadir Ida‑Outnan prefecture’s status as a world‑class destination.
