Souss-Massa: Launch of the Territorial Health Grouping

The head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Territorial Health Grouping (GST) for the Souss-Massa region in Agadir. This initiative fits into the broader push to reform the national health system, in line with royal directives aimed at a structural transformation of the sector.

This new initiative strengthens a series of deployments already launched in other regions of the Kingdom, reflecting a desire to establish territorially based health governance. The model rests especially on autonomous management, improved performance of facilities, and stronger coordination among the different levels of care, while taking local realities into account.

An organization designed for greater efficiency

During the inaugural session, members approved the budget and the action plan for 2026 and 2027. The grouping’s organizational chart and the status of health professionals were also endorsed. The structure is slated to become operational in August 2026.

Discussions highlighted the strategic importance of the Souss-Massa region, driven by sustained demographic growth. The Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Agadir, operational since 2025, plays a central role with its advanced capabilities, notably in robotic surgery.

Furthermore, the meeting stressed the need to enhance human resources and deploy an integrated health information system. The aim is to improve patient pathways, streamline access to services, and boost the overall efficiency of the regional health system.
