Tourism: Agadir’s Bab Al Marsa complex set to welcome its first visitors
Located on a strategic site facing the coastline, the complex is poised to become a new showcase for Agadir and the Souss‑Massa region. Its opening follows the completion of rehabilitation and development works carried out to modern standards, with an explicit intent to break from the former practices that, project officials say, damaged the site’s image and the quality of services offered to visitors.
Entrusted to the Regional Development Company dedicated to tourism activities, the management of the complex relies on an integrated approach involving several institutional actors, including the regional province, the municipality of Agadir and the regional council. The goal is to ensure a professional, sustainable operation that meets international standards.
According to project officials, particular attention has been given to training beneficiaries. About 70 operators have been supported, more than 40 of whom have already attended practical workshops on hospitality, catering and food safety. This approach aims to ensure quality service and professionalize activities within the site.
The new management model also foresees diversification of the offering. The complex will no longer be limited to the sale of seafood, but will also include an expanded range featuring traditional Moroccan cuisine, regional Souss terroir products, as well as spaces dedicated to ice cream and other catering services. This diversification aims to meet the expectations of an increasingly demanding local and international clientele.
Beyond its commercial role, Bab Al Marsa is envisioned as a space to showcase Agadir's maritime and urban heritage, within a logic of modernizing the city's tourism offer. Its success is now closely linked to the ability of the various actors to ensure rigorous management and maintain a high level of quality and attractiveness.
