Throne Cup Cycling: Elite National Clubs Compete in Agadir

Agadir, the national cycling capital: the Road and MTB Crown Cup will take place in Souss on August 1‑2. From the tarmac of the Grand Stadium to the trails of Drargua, the elite of Moroccan clubs is mobilising for two days of high‑level competition. A strategic event for the Royal Moroccan Cycling Federation, blending sporting performance with the promotion of the region’s tourism appeal.

The city of Agadir is set to become the national cycling hub. On August 1 and 2, the capital of Souss will host the road and mountain‑bike events of the King’s Cup of Cycling. This major gathering, organized by the Royal Moroccan Cycling Federation (FRMC), will bring together the elite of clubs and sports associations from the Kingdom for two days of top‑level competition.

A programme of road and trail

According to a statement from the federation, the event will kick off on Saturday, August 1, with the road‑cycling races. The individual time‑trial will take place on a closed circuit adjoining the Grand Stade d’Agadir starting at 09:00. The competition is open to all age categories, for both men and women.

Sunday, August 2, will be dedicated to mountain biking (MTB). Athletes will compete in the Olympic Cross‑Country discipline at the El Aïn Skhouna station in the commune of Drargua. The start of these races, which also cover all categories, is scheduled for 09:00.

A sporting and tourism stake

The event is the result of a partnership between the FRMC and the Souss‑Massa Regional League, in collaboration with the Agadir MTB Club and the Najah Souss Cycling Association. Organizers have a dual goal: to cement the King’s Cup as a cornerstone of the national calendar and to boost Agadir’s tourism activity. The federation notes that the event leverages the region’s modern infrastructure and logistical assets to enhance its visibility.

Titles up for grabs

Last year, the competitions took place on July 25‑26 in Azilal and Demnate. This edition will see the reigning champions attempt to defend their titles. In the senior road category, Kamal Mahrouk (Agadir Cycling Club) and Salma Hariri (Club El Majd Serghini) won. In MTB, the previous titles were claimed by Youssef Sakine (Seniors) and Bilal Arid (U23) of Club Ajial Demnate, while Fatima Zahra El Ouardighi (Agadir Club) triumphed in the women’s race.
