Weather: Temperatures soar to 45 °C in the south, storms expected Sunday and Monday

Weather will remain hot in southern Morocco this weekend, with temperatures potentially reaching 45 °C. Localized thunderstorms are expected on Sunday and Monday in several regions, according to forecasts from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).

Weather will remain generally stable and sunny on Saturday across much of Morocco, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology. The heat will be especially pronounced in the southeast as well as in the east and south of the Saharan provinces, where maximum temperatures will range between 40 °C and 45 °C.

Thermometers will read between 32 °C and 36 °C in Oriental, the Moulouya Valley, Saïss, the Phosphate and Oulmès plateaus, the plains of Tadla and Rhamna, as well as the interior of Souss. In the rest of the country, maximums will vary between 20 °C and 32 °C.

Low clouds, locally accompanied by fog or drizzle, will develop overnight along the Atlantic coast and the Mediterranean façade. Occasionally strong wind gusts will also affect the southeast as well as the east and south of the Saharan provinces, with a local dust‑storm risk.

On Sunday, weather will become more unstable in some areas. Clouds will develop over Oriental, the Middle Atlas and its eastern slopes, potentially bringing localized showers, sometimes with thunderstorms. Conditions will remain hot in the southeast and the interior of the Saharan provinces.

Temperatures will record a slight drop in the southeast and a modest rise elsewhere in the country. Quite strong winds will blow across the eastern high plateaus, the Atlas, the southeast and the Saharan provinces, with a localized dust‑storm risk.

On Monday, cloudy spells will affect the High and Middle Atlas as well as the far south of the country, with a risk of isolated showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will drop slightly in the Moulouya Valley and Saïss, while remaining generally stable or rising slightly in other regions.

Low clouds and misty formations will continue to develop over the Atlantic plains and the Mediterranean façade during the night and morning. Fairly strong wind gusts will affect the Atlas, the southeast, the eastern high plateaus and the Saharan provinces, potentially causing localized dust storms.

From Tuesday through the end of the week, weather will remain hot in the southeast and the southern provinces. Unstable clouds may still develop at times over the Atlas and Oriental during the afternoons, with localized thunderstorm showers.

Temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable until next Saturday, before beginning a gradual rise thereafter.
