“Ighoud” represents Agadir at the Casablanca Festival of Amazigh Theatre

The play by Mohtéraf Agadir for the Arts competes for the Grand Prize of Amazigh theatre at the festival's 8th edition, from 30 September to 4 October 2026.

Mohtéraf Agadir for the Arts is taking a new step in its theatrical journey through its participation with the play « Ighoud » in the eighth edition of the Casablanca Festival of Amazigh Theatre, scheduled from 30 September to 4 October 2026 in a number of theatres in the Casablanca-Settat region, where the play enters the competition for the Grand Prize of Amazigh theatre.

This participation comes in a particular context, as the festival edition coincides with the commemoration of the silver jubilee of the royal speech of Ajdir, delivered by King Mohammed VI on 17 October 2001, which marked a landmark stage in the path of attention to the Amazigh language and culture.

« Ighoud » carries the mark of a theatrical experience that has built up a notable presence in the recent period, after touring a number of regions of the Kingdom, including Souss-Massa, Marrakech-Safi and Drâa-Tafilalet, where its performances drew a wide audience and attracted the interest of a number of figures in the theatre field.

In its artistic construction, the play relies on a mix of black comedy, absurdity and philosophical reflection, using irony as a means of raising questions related to the human being, society, identity, origin and destiny.

« Ighoud » sets out from a journey through time, placing the past face to face with the present and giving the stage a space to reconsider a number of human and social issues, through an artistic vision that bets on combining the spectacular dimension with the depth of the questions it raises.

This work is part of Mohtéraf Agadir for the Arts' orientation towards developing Amazigh theatre, through work on language, writing, direction and set design, with a concern for offering performances that combine artistic renewal with engagement with the issues of the human being and society.

Soufiane Naoum wrote the play, while Rachid Lahzmir directed it, Hicham Dahbi created the set design, Malika Moud handled the costumes, Hicham Massine the music and Khalid Laktif the lighting. Hassan Hanich is the general stage manager and Hassan Adnarour the production manager, while Mountassir Ithri oversees press and communication.

Taking part in the performance of « Ighoud » are Hamid Achtouk, Kabira El Berdaouz, Hassan Alioui and Khadija Amentag, within an artistic team seeking to translate the work's directorial vision onto the stage.

The play's participation in the festival is supported by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication – Culture sector, and in cooperation with the commune of Agadir, as part of the continued support for Amazigh theatrical experiences and the encouragement of productions that bet on developing the tools of expression and artistic work.

The eighth edition of the Casablanca Festival of Amazigh Theatre is organised by Espace Tafoukt for Creation, in partnership with the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture and the Council of the Casablanca-Settat region, and also includes the organisation of the National Prize of Amazigh Culture in the theatre category for the year 2025.

By entering the competition for the Grand Prize, « Ighoud » continues its path within the national theatrical scene, carrying an experience that chose Amazigh as the language of performance and experimentation, and made the stage a space for raising questions and approaching the issues of the human being and society in a style combining irony and reflection.
