Marrakech–Agadir High-Speed Rail Line: Project Declared a Public Utility by Decree
Decree No. 2.26.605, published in the Official Gazette, declares the Marrakech–Agadir high-speed rail line, as well as a railway line linking Chichaoua and Essaouira, to be in the public interest.
The high-speed rail project between Marrakech and Agadir has entered an advanced legal phase following the publication in the Official Gazette of Decree No. 2.26.605, declaring the construction of a high-speed railway between the two cities, as well as a railway line linking Chichaoua and Essaouira, to be in the public interest. The decree authorizes the launch of land and administrative procedures concerning the properties crossed by the project, including acquisition and, where necessary, expropriation, in accordance with the law.
This development follows the completion of the preliminary and detailed design studies for the Marrakech–Agadir line, whose cost is estimated at approximately 55 billion dirhams. Efforts to secure the financing and technical expertise required for its construction are currently under way. The project represents a strategic step toward connecting the south of the Kingdom to the high-speed rail network and strengthening rail links between Marrakech, Agadir and Essaouira.
