Agadir: 130 Million Dirhams to Redevelop the Entrance to Drarga and the Abbassiyine Road

Wali Saïd Amzazi launched work to upgrade the entrance to the commune of Drarga and part of the Abbassiyine road, covering 6,415 metres.

Agadir – The wali of the Souss-Massa region and governor of Agadir Ida-Outanane Prefecture, Mr. Saïd Amzazi, officially launched the rehabilitation and development works at the entrance to the territorial commune of Drarga and along part of the Abbassiyine Road. The project aims to modernize the road infrastructure and ease the growing traffic pressure on this vital route.

The project was launched in the presence of the president of Drarga commune, representatives of the decentralized government services and other stakeholders. It covers a total distance of 6,415 metres and mobilizes an overall budget estimated at 130 million dirhams, fully financed by the commune, while delegated project management has been entrusted to Al Omrane Souss-Massa.

This major roadworks project is divided into two complementary phases:

The works are not limited to widening and resurfacing the roads in accordance with modern technical standards. They also include the renewal of the public lighting network, sidewalk improvements, tree planting and landscaping operations, with the aim of enhancing road safety and adding a harmonious aesthetic touch to the area’s urban landscape.

The project responds to the growing demand for improved daily travel conditions among residents and road users in Drarga and the outskirts of Greater Agadir. It also supports the area’s rapid demographic and economic expansion, helping ensure smoother traffic flow and better integration with the major ring-road routes.

The project concerns the main road crossing the centre of Drarga commune, linking Tilat Izem to Aït Lfassi via Tagadirt over a distance of nearly six kilometres. The works are expected to take approximately 18 months.

Hicham El Falah, director general of Al Omrane Souss-Massa, which is supervising the works, said the project would be carried out to high standards in line with residents’ expectations. It includes upgrading sidewalks and green spaces, as well as all measures that could enhance the comfort of residents and visitors to the area, an important industrial hub selected to host the Industrial Acceleration Plan signed in the presence of King Mohammed VI in Agadir on January 28, 2018.

For his part, Mohamed El Ouanzari, second vice-president of Drarga commune, described the occasion as historic after residents had endured a long wait and grown tired of the poor condition of the main road, which had caused numerous problems and accidents. Praising the efforts of all stakeholders, he stressed that the project would provide a significant qualitative boost to the commune and strengthen its attractiveness in the face of the strong population growth it experiences each year.
