Agadir: Social Initiative Supports the Education of 250 Orphans of Fishermen
The Al Amal National Association for Orphans and Widows of Seafarers, in partnership with the Jood Foundation, distributed schoolbags, supplies and winter clothing to 250 students in the Souss-Massa region.
Some 250 students, both girls and boys, from among the orphans of fishermen in the Souss-Massa region benefited from a wide-ranging solidarity initiative aimed at supporting their education and easing the financial burden on their families at the start of the school year. The initiative was carried out by the “Al Amal National Association for the Orphans and Widows of Fishermen,” in strategic partnership with the “Jood” Foundation for Development.
The operation involved distributing complete schoolbags containing official textbooks and books, pencil cases, geometry instruments and various essential supplies, as well as in-kind assistance in the form of winter clothing, including tracksuits, sports shoes and cotton socks. The aim was to provide beneficiary students with more favorable conditions in which to continue their studies with dignity and to support their educational stability.
According to Sabah Boufezzouz, president of the Al Amal National Association for the Orphans and Widows of Fishermen, the initiative forms part of a social approach focused on directing support toward the most disadvantaged groups, particularly the children of maritime workers who have lost their fathers, given the cumulative financial and social difficulties facing their families. To identify beneficiaries, the association, according to its president, relied on an accurate field database that made it possible to identify the families concerned and ensure that assistance reached those entitled to it.
The operation was not limited to providing supplies; it also sought to facilitate their delivery to beneficiaries, particularly in rural areas and isolated zones of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture. In this context, the president of the Tamri territorial commune and his deputy contributed to the initiative’s success by making a public transport coach available in response to the association’s appeal. This enabled several fishermen’s widows to travel to the collection points and receive the assistance in better conditions.
Community activist Sabah Boufezzouz said the operation took place in an excellent atmosphere, both organizationally and humanly, praising the logistical support that helped break the isolation of families living in remote areas and douars scattered far apart, including Tamanar, Tamri and hard-to-reach mountainous areas.
The initiative demonstrates that community and charitable action, when it embraces partnership and coordination, can move beyond the simple distribution of aid to become a genuine mechanism for supporting vulnerable families, preserving their dignity and investing in their children’s future. It also highlights that supporting children’s education requires creating the social conditions that help them access school and continue their studies with confidence and security.
