Agadir Prepares to Host the 8th Edition of the Halieutis Fair, Under the Banner of Food Sovereignty and Sustainable Marine Resources

The Halieutis International Seafood and Fisheries Fair will hold its eighth edition in Agadir from January 27 to 31, 2027, under the theme “Food Sovereignty and the Challenges of Marine Resource Sustainability.”

The city of Agadir is preparing to host the eighth edition of the international fisheries exhibition “Halieutis” from January 27 to 31, 2027. This international professional event will spotlight the future of the maritime sector and the challenges related to food security, the protection of natural resources and the strengthening of sustainable development.

This edition will be held under the theme “Food Sovereignty and the Challenges of Marine Resource Sustainability,” against a backdrop of growing interest in the responsible management of marine wealth, an essential pillar of food security and a major source of economic value and employment.

As part of preparations for the event, Ahmed El Mehdi El Mezouari, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, in charge of Maritime Fisheries, chaired a meeting on Monday, October 19, devoted to assessing progress on organizational and logistical preparations and reviewing measures to ensure the successful staging of this edition.

The choice of food sovereignty and marine resource sustainability as the theme reflects the importance of reconciling the demands of economic production with the need to preserve environmental balances, amid growing pressure on natural resources and the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems.

In this context, the minister delegate highlighted the strategic importance of the theme selected for this edition, given its direct link to food security and the long-term sustainability of marine resources. He stressed the need for responsible management of national fisheries to ensure the sustainability of marine wealth and safeguard the rights of future generations.

The sector’s challenges are not limited to protecting fish stocks. They also include developing production and value chains, improving the quality of seafood products and strengthening their competitiveness in markets, as well as promoting innovation and scientific research and developing aquaculture, one of the promising areas for diversifying marine production.

These challenges underline the need for an integrated approach that reconciles the preservation of natural capital with improved profitability in maritime activities, in order to strengthen the sector’s contribution to the national economy while ensuring the sustainability of its resources and its ability to adapt to environmental and economic changes.

The Halieutis exhibition is expected to provide a platform for exchanging expertise and experience among professionals, experts and specialized institutions. It will also offer an opportunity to showcase the latest innovations and technologies in maritime fisheries, aquaculture and the valorization of seafood products, as well as to explore investment, partnership and cooperation opportunities among the various stakeholders.

The event will also serve to highlight the Kingdom’s maritime assets and explore ways to leverage them for the benefit of the blue economy, wealth creation and employment, with particular emphasis on environmental sustainability and the rational management of resources.

Through this edition, attention will turn to Agadir as a key venue for dialogue on the future of the maritime sector, at a time when the need is growing for innovative solutions that ensure a balance between food security and the protection of marine wealth, while strengthening Morocco’s position in maritime fisheries and sustainable development.
